Box 1 contains general administrative files such as budgets, approval forms, and quarterly reports. Boxes 2-7 contain records arranged by project number. The projects contained in Box 2 and part of Box 3 are general projects, involved with conferences, USA projects related to missions, ecumenical efforts, and multi-country projects. The remainder of Box 3 and all of Boxes 4-7, still arranged in project number order, show specific country groupings. These countries are Bangladesh, Brazil, Cameroun, Colombia, Ethiopia, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Madagascar, Papua New Guinea, Nigeria, Namibia, South Africa, Taiwan, Tanzania, and a final grouping of West Africa, which includes Niger, Nigeria, and Senegal. The files contain project proposals, correspondence, and reports. They were generated by Executive Directors Morris A. Sorenson, Jr., and Mark Thomsen, and Area Secretaries Lester A. Dahlen, Lowell Hesterman, James L. Knutson, Duane A. Olson, M. Douglas Swendseid, and Jack F. Reents.

The American Lutheran Church (1961-1987) was formed by the merger of the American Lutheran Church (1930-1960), the Evangelical Lutheran Church and the United Evangelical Lutheran Church. Representatives from each of the constitutent churches formed the Joint Union Committee in 1950 to effect the merger. Presidents of the constituent bodies at the merger were Henry F.
